Last year during a measles outbreak in Washington state, in an area with a higher-than-average percentage of measles vaccine exemptions (what a coincidence!), one anti-vaccination mom has looked for advice on how to protect her 3-year-old from the measles.
“My 3-year-old is not vaccinated and there is currently a measles outbreak in my state,” she wrote in a group called Vaccine Education Network: Natural Health Anti-Vaxxers Community. “Any suggestions for precautions I can take to protect her would be very much appreciated.”
Hmm. If only there were a tried and tested method with which to protect people from infectious diseases. Perhaps one that led to measles being declared eliminated in the United States in the year 2000? This achievement is something that the recent rise in unvaccinated children is sadly threatening to overturn, which is why the anti-vaxx movement must be confronted for the good of public health.
Needless to say, the mom certainly got a response from the pro-vaccination crowd as the post was widely shared, and some of the best roasts were hilarious if a little dark at times. Because if people refuse to listen to data and evidence and choose to endanger their children with their stubbornness, what else can you do?
